Gino: (to me and David, who were having a discussion about Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is a favorite band of ours) "What are you talking about?"

David: "My new favorite band."

Gino: "Who, is it you?"

David: (taken aback somewhat) "No. I'm not even a band. I'm a musician."

Me: "I'm my own band!"

"I'm a lunatic! Come on, say it with me!"

Me: In the immortal words of Ozzie Osbourne, she "introduced them to their minds".

Stephanie: *laughs* Now Ozzie Osbourne can't say anything.

Me: You're right...

(A friend named Stephanie and I were discussing Yoko Ono and what part she had to play in the Beatles' breakup. Then the conversation turned to Black Sabbath. I was quoting "Sweet Leaf", by the way.)

Novemberists

Me: Hey...what's a "Novemberist"?
Sasha: A what?
Me: *gets out a legal pad with a very long song written on it* Here. "See Novemberists in the street." What's a Novemberist?
Sasha: What's this?
Me: A song I wrote. Except I have no idea what a Novemberist is. What's a Novemberist?
Sasha: Well, I know what a Decemberist is.
Me: Yeah! The Decemberists! So, you've given their music a listen to?
Sasha: No.
Me: Ah...it's weird, 'cause I have no idea what a Novemberist is, even though I wrote this song. *reconsidering* Actually...I was on meletonin when I wrote this anyway.
Sasha: Meletonin?
Me: Yeah. There was meletonin in my brain.
Sasha: *gives me genuinely surprised look* How did THAT get in there?

Becky: "Bonnie, what's your favorite band?"

Me: "Eh, probably Pink Floyd."

Becky: "Why? What do they sing about?"

Me: (making sure my answer is carefully chosen because my mother is within earshot) "Sad stuff...but it didn't always have to be that way! They used to sing about happy stuff! Like cats! And gnomes! And bikes!"

Becky: "GNOMES?"

Mum: "Bikes?"

Me: "Yeah, bikes."

Mum: "D'you mean motor-bikes, or the kind of bikes you pedal?"

Me: "Normal bikes. The kind you ride on the sidewalk. The kind I have."

Mum: (looks at me with a strange look that suggests I knew more than she thought) "Oh..."

(Taken from an interesting conversation with my sister and later my mum regarding the nature of Pink Floyd.)
